Team India Beats Sri Lanka In Style-Champions Of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

History was created at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai on 02 April 2011 after 28 years. India beat Sri lanka in the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to emerge as the Champions of the world. Great long awaited achievement. Last, the trophy was won by Kapil Dev and his men in 1983 when they beat West Indies in a thrilling encounter.

The scores do not matter. What matters is that Team India won. That’s it. Before the final, i had my apprehensions about India winning. But. as the match progressed and the team gained momentum, i was soon convinced that India will take away the world cup.

I must appreciate the fighting spirit of the Sri Lankan side. They played good cricket and gave India a run for the money before wilting against superb batting by Dhoni and Gambhir.They went down fighting like warriors. Am sure they have picked up many lessons from this memorable historic game.

Here is a word of praise about each one of our heroes.

  1. Virender Sehwag- Dashing hurricane who sets the stadium ablaze with his shots.
  2. Sachin Tendulkar- The legendary little master’s name sends jitters in the opposition’s camp.
  3. Gautam Gambhir- Hard hitting tornado.
  4. Virat Kohli- Rock of Gibralter.
  5. Yuvraj Singh-  Tsunami of the team.
  6. MS Dhoni- Astute leader and captain.
  7. Suresh Raina- Stylish left hander who attacks like a cat’s paw.
  8. Yusuf Pathan- The giant sized hammer.
  9. Harbhajan Singh- Turbanized Terror.
  10. Zaheer Khan- Stinger Missile who misses no one.
  11. R. Ashwin- Magic maestro who keeps batsmen in a spin.
  12. Munaf Patel- As accurate and steady as a computer.
  13. Ashish Nehra- Lanky acer who pricks hard.
  14. Sreesanth- Young angry man with fiery pace.
  15. P. Chawla- Wristy spinner who spins a web.

Coach- Garry Kiersten- Man with a magic wand and with Midas touch

I am really happy that the trophy has been won by the best team in the tournament.
