The costliest buy of IPL 8 Yuvraj Singh is failing in batting time and again. When DD bought him for 16 crores, it appeared that times will change for Delhi. But, that was not to happen. On 26 Apr , against tough RCB, DD were bundled out for 95 runs in 18.2 overs. No batsman except M Agarwal, K Jadhav showed guts, will power and confidence to stay at the crease.
Mr Costly- Yuvraj’s contribution was just 2 runs. Is it not a matter of shame for him and for DD? Yuvraj has let down DD as well as his fans who felt that he should have been part of World Cup Team. Now, it is proved that the selectors were right in leaving him out of the WC squad. Here are the achievements (runs scored with difficulty) of Mr Yuvraj against various teams in IPL 8:-
- 9 runs- CSK
- 27 runs- RR
- 55 runs- Kings XI
- 9 runs- SRH
- 21 runs- KKR
- 2 runs- MI
- 2 runs- RCB
What a great performance from the costliest player. Why is he being played if he is not scoring? This is a million dollar question which we need to ask the DD management and captain. Is this not a good signal being sent to all the cricketing nations about how our franchise buy players in IPL auction ?
Yuvraj has not improved his batting . He is scared of rising deliveries and nibbles at out going deliveries playing away from body. These are basic mistakes which can be corrected at school stage.
Yuvraj should be made to sit on the bench for rest of the matches. That will send a good message for players who fail to perform. Why not give chance to a youngster/ newcomer in his place?
Like Kings XI was massacred by CSK on 25 Apr, it appears that RCB will walk away with the match with ease. Anything can happen in a T20 match. But that is unlikely to happen.
One thing is clear- Most batsmen in IPL lack the confidence in themselves- must to win matches.
